Former correspondent for Uganda-CAN, William Bionx Akena is part of a new venture in northern Uganda to facilitate research groups, economic interest and tourism. The group, called JetStream Agencies Ltd., is a "brainchild of professionals from northern Uganda who have decided to give the north a much more positive image, besides the image of the war that has lasted for years." The upcoming August congressional recess isn’t summer vacation for U.S. politicians – it’s their chance to hear what’s on the minds of their constituents and it’s our chance to make sure their priorities reflect our concerns. From August 13-17, Resolve Uganda is organizing people from all over the country to visit one of their local U.S. Congressional offices, carrying a message of hope and a demand for action. They'll be asking U.S. policymakers to support: (1) A peaceful resolution of the war in Uganda, and (2) An end to the use of child soldiers. Sign up by clicking here.

Margaret Alerotex, long-time advocate for peace in northern Uganda and journalist for World Vision, died Monday. Alerotex wrote several feature stories for Uganda-CAN in the early days of our campaign. On Monday, after drinking juice at lunch, she fell sick, collapsed and was rushed to the independent hospital, where she died. Police in Gulu are investigating possible poisoning in the cause of her death. Margaret Alerotex was a courageous and compassionate advocate for the children of northern Uganda. She will be greatly missed.
